2021 Careers Program | Summer Session

In June and July, Careers Program Instructors will be hosting a variety of careers courses for Community and College Program participants in-person at the MICC Activities Center! Participants will have access to the Activities Center lounge for downtime. We hope to offer opportunities to build new career skills and explore new career paths. 

These courses are open to currently enrolled MICC Community and College Program Participants. 

Careers Summer programming opportunities will run from June 7 to June 18 and July 19 to July 29. Days and times of courses vary and are listed below. To register, please complete and submit the form listed below. You will be contacted upon submitting your registration with further details regarding the course. 

Careers Program Summer Session Registration

Registration Information: Registration is open to current MICC Community and College Program participants only. You may register for multiple courses at one time, please be sure to note the offered dates and times. Payment will not be collected at the time of registration. Upon submitting your registration, MICC’s Financial Services Office will electronically invoice through www.bill.com. After registration has been completed.

    Work Experience 
    Are you looking for a chance to give something back to the community or make a difference? Build your resume with hands-on work experience at a variety of organizations in the Richfield area with a Careers instructor as your guide and mentor.  It will be a chance to advance your skill set, create a professional network and discover what you enjoy. MICC provides transportation to/from the volunteer site.

    Work-Life Balance
    Achieving a healthy work-life balance can have its challenges.  Learn the benefits of work life balance, recognize the signs of an unbalanced life, identify employer resources for a balanced life and improve time management and goal setting.   This class will include an energizing no impact workout that focuses on developing core stability and overall strength with the use of a stability ball.  Stability ball and yoga mat provided for all participants. 

    Employment Support
    In this course, participants will practice the skills needed to accept a new position, identify needed supports, understand new employee documents and procedures, and retain employment. In addition, the course will address communication and interpersonal skills as well as understanding work culture and work ethic. This course will also explore Peer to Peer Learning.
    Customer Service Reboot
    Customer service is one of the most important skills in all employment settings and most managers are looking for team members that can demonstrate real customer service skills. Whether you are looking for a new job or want to brush-up your customer service skills, this course is for you. We will: identify and define vocabulary used to enhance customer service, discuss, and explain what customer service is and why it’s important, and develop strategies to anticipate guest needs.

    Wellness in the Workplace
    Learn a variety of valuable skills to contribute to your employment success. This class will highlight the aspects of a well-balanced diet to keep you healthy and energized, as well as planning ahead with food preparation for your workday or work week. Topics of food science such as macro and micronutrients, digestion, and metabolism will be discussed. Students will also learn stress management methods through mediation and gentle yoga movement to keep your body and mind healthy which you can incorporate into your job site as well as at home. Focused skills include: Balanced lunches, work snacks, nutrition, food preparation, guided meditation, stress relievers, yoga.

    Let's Get Cooking!
    In this class, individuals will explore cooking methods, run through recipes, and understand the basics of nutrition and metabolism. Everyone will leave with knowledge of meal preparation and planning while understanding the importance of a balanced diet. There is no prior cooking experience required, as we’ll start from the very basics and take it slow so everyone can learn in a relaxed, safe environment. ​

    Local Flora and Fauna
    The planet is full of various life forms with the two most common things one can see besides humans, is flora (plants) and fauna (animals). Flora and fauna play an essential role on this planet and in this class, together we will observe, learn, and study local flora and fauna on different walks and hikes. Interaction with nature allows a human to become natural. We are so engrossed with technology that we have forgotten about the essence of life. To put ourselves in the lap of nature is to open ourselves to the beauty around us. Nature is the greatest teacher of all time.

    Outdoor Exercise and Mobility
    ​
    Time to move your body! Enjoy a full-body workout in the great outdoors! This class will focus on endurance, agility, strength, balance, and flexibility by using traditional exercises (push-ups, planks, squats, yoga, etc.). The outdoor atmosphere provides all the equipment you need! 
    Team Cycling and Team Building
    ​
    Dust off your bikes!  Summer is the perfect time to ride and explore the abundant trail system right out MICC’s front door.  In this course, you will learn to communication with your fellow cyclists in an atmosphere which builds and strengthens relationships, awareness, and trust.  You will learn cycling terms to maximize your cycling skills for future safe and enjoyable rides.
